A shortage of priests in the U.S. Catholic church calls for an integrated look at the changing identity and needs of priests, said Bishop Richard C. Hanifen of Colorado Springs, Colo.
Hanifen chaired the U.S. bishops' Committee on Priestly Life and Ministry in 2000 when it published its study and recommendations on the shortage of priests. On Nov. 9, he presented the findings of "The Study of the Impact of Fewer Priests on the Pastoral Ministry" to an estimated 240 people at the Denver convention of the National Association of Church Personnel Administrators.
