The Carol M. Baldwin Fund has awarded SUNY Upstate Medical University three grants totaling $150,000 for breast cancer research in memory of three local women who died of the disease.

"These women and others who have passed away remind us that the fight against breast cancer has not been won," said Carol M. Baldwin, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1990.

Each of the grants will be awarded in two $25,000 installments, with the first half given out this month and the rest to be awarded in December 2002, said Baldwin, who turns 72 today.
