As a real estate developer, Gary Torgow's stature and downtown Detroit holdings grew during the Archer administration. And the incoming Kilpatrick administration already has tapped him as a key adviser on ways to improve how city offices work with businesses.
Torgow's Sterling Group owns or manages more than 25 properties containing about 2 million square feet under lease. Most of it is office space, with some commercial and residential buildings.
At 43, he is well-known as City Hall's go-to guy on development. That's unlikely to change when Kwame Kilpatrick takes office next month.
