EARLIER this year, five special track access points were installed at both ends and within the 7800m-long tunnel north of Marseille on the new TGV Mediterranee high-speed line in France. The access points are designed to guarantee rapid and simple re-railing of road-rail vehicles in an emergency in the tunnel.
Kraiburg had to cope with UIC 60 rails laid on different types of concrete sleeper, a drainage channel in between both tracks at the northern portal of the tunnel which had to be bridged, and it had to maintain access to signalling components.
