Dec. 18--FLORENCE, S.C.--A trio of Florence County lawmakers stepped forward late Monday with a financial bailout plan that should enable Florence District 1 to rescind a decision to fire dozens of employees next month.
District trustees have announced plans to slash spending by eliminating 216 of its 1,700 staffers because of state budget cuts. That number includes 109 of 850 educators. More than half of the 109 are first-year teachers in the downtown district that has 13,700 students.
