STOCKHOLM -- Quinidine plus verapamil was better than sotalol alone for preventing recurrent atrial fibrillation following cardioversion in a controlled trial with 848 patients.
Symptoms alone were an unreliable way to detect recurrent atrial fibrillation (AF), Dr. Thomas Fetsch reported at the 23rd Congress of the European Society of Cardiology. "In light of these results, anticoagulant therapy should be used on all patients with a history of AF, even in those who say they are asymptomatic."
The study, done in Germany and the Czech Republic, involved patients who had just undergone cardioversion for documented, chronic atrial fibrillation. A daily ...
