First Great Western has called bids for the lease, hire, or purchase of five diesel locomotives with an option for a sixth.
* W S Atkins has a [pound]2.1 million contract to replace halon-based fire suppression systems on all 114 class 43 diesel HST power cars leased by Angel Trains. Halon is due to be banned under a European directive from the end of 2002.
* On September 6, Railtrack will start the pre-selection process for a 10-year maintenance contract for Section 1 of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link.
