San Diego-based Neurocrine Bio-sciences Inc. recently said it will begin late-stage studies of NBI-34060, an experimental long-term treatment for chronic insomnia in adults.
The 500-patient study will evaluate the safety of two doses of NBI-34060 at 40 medical sites in the United States and Europe.
Neurocrine CEO and president Gary A. Lyons, said the trial marks "a major turning point in the history of the company."
Phase III is the last of three stages of trials required by the Food and Drug Administration before a company can apply for drug approval.
