Dec. 20--York County may becoming more urban, but it is managing to keep its poverty level in check.

York County's level of poverty remained flat at 6.8 percent from 1997 to 1998, according to figures released from the U.S. Census Bureau today.

The U.S. Census Bureau will be releasing additional information on poverty from the 2000 Census next year.

York County's level of poverty is far below both the state and national levels. In 1998, 10.7 percent of the state's population lived in poverty. At 21.1 percent, the highest concentration of the state's poor ...
