Hair CARE, historically, can Withstand difficult economic times. Though the results are not in yet for the fourth quarter, many industry observers expect results to be in-line with the rest of 2001. According to Information Resources Inc., Chicago, shampoo sales for the year ended Aug. 12 rose 1.2% to $1.79 billion and conditioner sales increased 9.1% to $1.1 billion in supermarket, drug store and mass merchandisers. Hair color increased 3.6% to $1.42 billion. Some call hair care a staple, items that are purchased with the bread and milk.
