2001 DEC 26 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Using a new "survivorship" model, investigators have identified the population of patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) most likely to benefit from lung transplantation surgery, according to results of a new study.
The nine-part model, more detailed than the selection criterion currently used by physicians, not only will identify which candidates for transplant will live longer, but it may also lead to a reduction in the number of patients on the waiting list and the time spent on the list for scarce donor organs.
