Bound in corsets, draped in plunging necklines and sporting a British accent, Hilary Swank is in her element with her new film "The Affair of the Necklace."

It's an elaborate 18th century costumer based on real events, and not coincidentally, it's a far cry from Swank's Oscar-winning work as cross-dressing sexual outlaw and murder victim Brandon Teena in 1999's "Boys Don't Cry."

"What girl wouldn't want to wear those clothes and the jewelry and the hair?" said Swank, who, at the moment, is dressed in jeans and a T-shirt. "When you're a little girl, you dream of being a princess. That's one of the reasons I liked this: I love period pieces.
