In Canada, regulation of the securities industry is a provincial responsibility. The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is the regulatory body responsible for the administration of Ontario securities laws. These laws govern how securities are issued and traded within Ontario's capital markets. The OSC is a member of the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA), an association of securities regulators from Canada's ten provinces and three territories. The Securities Act has two primary purposes: to foster fair and efficient capital markets and confidence in those markets; and to protect investors from unfair or improper practices.
