AT TEXAS HEART INSTITUTE
HOUSTON, Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Francisco (Frankie) Rivera set a world record when he was supported for nearly eight months by a Thermo Cardiosystems Inc. HeartMate cardiac assist device while awaiting a heart transplant, Texas Heart Institute/St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital physicians reported today.
The device was inserted into the married father of two on June 7, 1989. He received a heart transplant Jan. 26, in an operation by a team headed by Dr. O.H. Frazier, director of the Texas Heart Institute's Cardiovascular Surgical Research Laboratories ...
