The Denver Kwanzaa Committee is asking ministers of the city's black churches to use the theme of nia, one of the seven principles of Kwanzaa that means ``purpose,'' as the subject of their sermons this Sunday.
The African-American holiday runs Wednesday through Jan. 1, and focuses on Nguzo Saba, seven principles to be practiced throughout the year.
The holiday is based on harvest celebrations in West Africa. Kwanzaa, a Swahili word meaning first, is derived from the phrase matunda ya kwanzaa, or the first fruits.

...A man died Monday night at Denver Health Medical Center after being stabbed in a fight, police said. The fight took place earlier in the day inside a home at 3002 Welton St., police said. Six people were involved in the fight. The man's name and age were not released.
