Dear Editor: As the program supervisor for the FAST program, I would like to correct a misperception that appears to have occurred in a recent article.
It stated "nine Madison schools participate in the research-based program." This, along with other information in the article, gives the impression that the federal grant monies fund the program locally. It does not. From the fall of 1998 to this past spring, three Madison schools were funded, each year, by federal research dollars via the Wisconsin Center for Education Research.
