SAN JOSE, Calif. _ His name frequently is linked to coaching vacancies. And whenever Stanford Coach Tyrone Willingham is asked about his future, he offers the same cryptic comment: "When a great opportunity comes along, you have to take it."

The response conjures all sorts of possibilities: Willingham at an elite college with a chance to compete annually for the national championship; Willingham in the NFL, revitalizing a struggling young team like Indianapolis or living the good life while coaching the San Diego Chargers.

But there's another possibility: Maybe Willingham sees Stanford as the "great opportunity" in his life.
