A recent Old Dominion University report on the state of the region includes a troubling, if hardly groundbreaking, conclusion about the relationship between population and politics in Hampton Roads.
Hampton Roads, the report points out, is losing political clout to the state's faster-growing regions. Anyone requiring confirmation of this need only look at this year's legislative redistricting.
As the ODU report notes, ``the region will move from a situation in which 27 legislators had their districts wholly or partially in Hampton Roads to one next year when only 23 legislators will claim some portion of Hampton Roads in their district.''
