Sharifa Reynolds is only 8, but within her small, lithe body resides a strong spirit of ``kuumba,'' a Kiswahili word that means ``creativity.''
Kuumba is one of the Nguzo Saba, the seven guiding principles of the African-American holiday Kwanzaa. Kwanzaa began Wednesday and ends New Year's Day. And although Sharifa tries to observe the other principles, it is kuumba she most strongly demonstrates.
As the youngest member of the UHURU Dance Ensemble, a local African dance troupe, Sharifa will get to celebrate and share her kuumba at the 14th annual Kwanzaafest. The free, public celebration is ...
