IT IS possible to measure the economic performance of Northern Ireland over a period of more than half-a-century, and to compare this progress with that of both Great Britain and the Republic of Ireland.
Official estimates of Northern Ireland's output do not go back as far as the early 1950s, but in December 1954 Professor Charles Carter of Queen's University made estimates of the Gross National Output of Northern Ireland for the year 1953.
