Dec. 31--If pickled herring is on the New Year's Eve party menu, you might take a moment to thank Ma Baensch -- and the woman who continues her legacy.
Lena "Ma" Baensch was a co-founder of Baensch Food Products Co., maker of Ma Baensch Imported Herring Tidbits, a longtime fixture at Christmas and New Year's holiday meals throughout Wisconsin. Lena's face was featured on the labels that continue to grace jars of the Milwaukee company's pickled herring.
