HERBAL medicine could be prescribed just like other, conventional drugs under new plans by the Government.
Health Secretary Alan Milburn is looking at regulating herbal medicine and considering bringing other alternative remedies and treatments into the mainstream.
The news coincides with doctors' calls for urgent research to be conducted into the sideeffects of herbal medicines and the way they interact with conventional prescription drugs.
More than five million people in Britain now use herbal medicines for conditions as diverse as rheumatism, asthma, cramp, depression, insomnia, tinnitus and scarlet fever.
