Neighborhood preservationists and townhouse developers disagree on what should happen to the 139-year-old Cullen House on St. Paul's West End. Here's a look at the house's history:
- Who's Cullen? William J. Cullen, a Democratic legislator from Indiana, was appointed superintendent of Indian affairs for the Minnesota Territory in 1857 by President James Buchanan. In 1862, Cullen moved with his wife and three sons into the limestone French Empire Style house, overlooking the Mississippi River and more than 30 acres.
