ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australian retailing giant Woolworths has acquired Brisbane's Morrison hotel. The acquisition, from a group that includes Metal Storm executive director, John Ribot, was made by Woolworths in partnership with former Austotel CEO, Andrew Griffiths, and Melbourne hotelier, Bruce Mathieson. Joint venture, Doogle, in which Woolworths holds a 50 per cent stake, also has contracts on another ten hotels in southeast Queensland and reportedly wants to eventually hold up to 80 liquor outlets in the state. Woolworths rival, Coles Myer, controls 15 hotels and 30 liquor shops in Queensland through its Liquorland business.
