SANTA CLARA, Calif. _ Tyronne Drakeford's retirement from football is on hold.
After being out of the league for nearly a year, the cornerback returned to the 49ers on Thursday and will be available for the regular-season finale Sunday at New Orleans. Drakeford, a second-round draft pick in 1994 by the 49ers, provides the banged-up secondary with experience and depth.
``We got a little beat up the other day,'' defensive coordinator Jim Mora said. ``This gives us a little more security. This is a guy that knows our system. He's been away for a while, but it came back quick and he can still run. ''
