A SINGLE serving of tomato sauce each day appears to slow the progress of prostate cancer, according to research.

The key to the power of the tomato is a compound called lycopene, which gives it its red pigment.

While previous research has focused on the health-giving effects of supplements containing high doses of the compound, scientists at the University of Illinois in Chicago decided to see whether eating small amounts of tomatoes could also prove beneficial.
