WPP APPAREL FABRICS PHASEOUT JOLTS STAFF
NEW YORK - Employees of the Apparel Fabrics division of WestPoint Pepperell reacted in disbelief Tuesday when they learned that their division was classified as a "discontinued operation" by its parent corporation.
Most said they had learned of the classification from reading the press report of WestPoint's fourth-quarter financial figures. The firm said it now will concentrate on its household fabrics business, and that Apparel Fabrics and a London-based wallpaper operation would be classified as discontinued operations (page 15, Nov. 21).
