HANOI, Jan. 7 Asia Pulse - The Vietnam (VN) Index fell 3.7 points or a decrease of 1.57 per cent to close at 231.7 points in the first trading session of 2002 on Jan. 2.

Trading at the Ho Chi Minh City Securities Trading Centre last Wednesday saw 64,310 shares and bonds change hands for almost VND 1.96 billion.

The Binh Thanh Import-Export Production and Trade Joint Stock Company (Gilimex) or GIL made its stock exchange debut on the first trading session of the year.

Gilimex sold 8,400 shares at a price of VND 38,000 each for a total of VND 319 million, accounting for 16 per cent of the total exchange value.
