ABIX via COMTEX) -- While Australia's four major banking stocks performed well in 2001, so did those of smaller banks and building societies. One, however, Wide Bay Capricorn Building Society, performed much better. Its stock price increased by 67 per cent during 2001. The Rock Building Society and Mackay Permanent Building Society stocks also performed well, increasing by 40 per cent and 24 per cent respectively for 2001. Bendigo Bank and Adelaide Bank stocks increased by 45 per cent and 32 per cent respectively, for 2001.
