Starting Wednesday, fingerprints of workers at the Dane County Regional Airport will be scanned and run against prints in state and federal law enforcement databases.

This - just another move to secure the airport's sensitive spots, such as airplanes and mechanical areas - reflects a national trend toward comforting those still timid about flying since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The $36,000 fingerprint scanner was paid for by the airport, said airport facilities manager Bill LeGore. The airport, however, is expecting reimbursement for 95 percent of the cost from the state and federal ...
