icebreaking canal barge is being used on the Midland canal network to help clear the waterways of ice following the worst freeze in more than 20 years.
A traditional narrowboat with a V-shaped prow has begun work breaking up ice after 140 miles of canal in Birmingham and the Black Country were frozen, the worst the network has suffered since 1981.
The ice is up to six inches thick along some stretches.
