Passing through Washington, D.C., the other day, I went to see a show of paintings by Grandma Moses, and guess what? I was thoroughly enchanted by them. I was in Washington on other business and, frankly, went to see the show more out of curiosity than as a matter of genuine interest. It had been decades since I had laid eyes on a Grandma Moses picture, and I had never paid the work much attention. There were always more important things to look at and, for a critic, more important things to write about.
