Jan. 9--Dave Thomas will be remembered by many as a folksy hamburger pitchman yet the legacy of the Wendy's founder can already be found in the kitchens and on the menu boards of rivals McDonald's and Burger King.

Thomas, 69, died Tuesday morning of liver cancer at his home in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. His achievements in menu innovation and food quality helped build Wendy's into the nation's No. 3 hamburger chain.
