WALNUT CREEK, Calif. _ The Bay Area economy's short-term outlook is robust once the national recession ends, but the region's long-term prognosis is in jeopardy from some severe ailments.
Those are some of the conclusions in a report prepared by McKinsey & Co., a consulting firm. The study determined that the region can expect reasonably strong growth rates after the recession, but that the growth won't be anywhere near the huge expansion fueled by the dot-com boom.
And even the growth that does occur could be curbed by the high cost of living and traffic miseries in the Bay Area.
