Jan. 10--Oklahoma wheat is part of the 30,000 metric tons of U.S. wheat bound for Cuba Tuesday on a bulk carrier.
The carrier contains the first of what Midwest farmers hope are many grain shipments to the nation that has been under a U.S. trade embargo since 1963.
"It is a very big deal," said Mark Hodges, the Oklahoma Wheat Commission's executive director. "The market isn't going to spring forth overnight. But it is a start, and we're extremely happy to get those shipments in there. We have worked on getting that done over the past few years."
