Despite the fact that record warm weather has caused lake ice to deteriorate in Minnesota, the Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing Extravaganza contest will go on, but at a different lake.
Normally held on Gull Lake, the Jan. 19 event this year will be a mile away on North Long Lake, on Hwy. 371 Bay, Jaycees spokesman Bob Slaybaugh said Thursday.
"We've got 12 to 13 inches of ice [compared to 7-13 inches on Gull Lake], and everybody is comfortable with that," Slaybaugh said. "Actually, there's more northerns and sunfish in North Long than in Gull Lake, so more fish should be caught."
