"Driving the roads in and around Sauk County, you often get the impression of being in the middle of nowhere," concedes author Dean O'Brien. "It looks as if very little could have happened here."
In fact, O'Brien continues, much of Wisconsin's history, indeed, much of the history of the United States, can be found in Sauk County. O'Brien's book, "Looking Into History: The Sauk County Area" (Sauk County Historical Society: $12), seeks to make sure we all know why.
