HI, HISTORY, GET ME REWRITE
On May 31 George Will, in the course of a column devoted to the flowering of civic nastiness in Congress and elsewhere, reached back two years to retrieve a negative image from the campaign to defeat the Supreme court nomination of Robert Bork. In that campaign, recalled Will, "nastiness was covered with a cloying incense of ethical pretense. It clicked when some of Bork's critics in the media laid their muddy hands on a list of movies he had rented."
That is a lie. In fact, a reporter for Washington's City Paper, who had never written previously about Bork and had no discernible position on the Bork nomination, wrote what ...
