One of the inevitable results of the piecemeal implementation of applications within a company is that a great deal of data is processed but very little information is kept.
The same customer order, for example, may be entered separately in an inventory system, an accounting system, and a sales analysis system under different customer numbers in separate customer databases. What may be two customers in one system could be two branches of the same company to another system, or a parent and a subsidiary.
