FORT CAMPBELL -- One of the 15 special operations soldiers who received a Purple Heart on Tuesday said it would mean more if he had been injured by enemy fire instead of friendly fire.
''I mean it's pretty bad when you get a Purple Heart from friendly fire,'' said Sgt. 1st Class Ronnie Raikes, of Richmond, Va. ''I mean, we're going to accept the Purple Heart, we deserve a Purple Heart, but it would be a lot better if it was from enemy fire instead of friendly fire.''
Raikes, who suffered nerve damage in one arm, was among U.S. soldiers injured Dec. 5 when a U.S. bomb carrying 2,000 pounds of explosives missed its target ...
