Transneft Export Leaks Cloud Russian Compliance Picture

Nearly 100,000 barrels per day of crude oil leaked out of Russia's Transneft pipeline -- the country's main line for exports -- through various eastern and northern ports and by rail in 2001. That number could increase this year, putting a significant portion of Russia's commitment to Opec for 150,000 b/d in price-supportive cutbacks at risk.

Data for 2001 compiled by Oil Daily sister publication Nefte Compass for last year show 22,000 b/d of crude exports bypassing Transneft's pipes by rail, as well 75,000 b/d bypassing the line via seaborne exports.
