DANVILLE, Va. -- The U.S. textile industry is shrinking again. Dan River has announced that it is cutting back on apparel fabrics production, closing two home furnishings facilities, and laying off 396 employees.
Dan River said it is downsizing the weaving capacity of its Apparel Fabrics division to bring productive capacities in line with current demand levels. The company will idle 140 looms, and 120 other looms will be relocated from Danville, Va., to the Sevierville, Tenn., plant.
