Canon's $699-list PowerShot S300 Digital Elph embodies what a point- and-shoot camera should be: compact and easy to use, with good zoom range and adequate built-in flash. Its 2.11-megapixel CCD and 3x zoom lens capture good-looking digital stills and video clips. It's just the thing for snapshooters looking for an ultracompact model.
The LCD screen is bright and sharp enough to be used outdoors. We could view it easily in direct sunlight by shading the screen with a hand. The setting menus were clear and easy to navigate.
