The crowded Dane County Jail will get some temporary relief after the state Department of Corrections agreed Thursday to house 15 inmates.
"It gives us a little bit of breathing room," Dane County Sheriff Gary Hamblin said. "It means we take 15 people off the floor. It reduces tensions a little bit."
Earlier this week, Hamblin considered declaring the jail "dangerously overcrowded" -- a designation that means he can turn away inmates, specifically parole and probation violators wanted by the DOC.
The Dane County Jail has a capacity of 942 inmates but had 1,019 on Thursday. That number ...
