A team of scientists studying ancient corn varieties in a remote part of the state of Oaxaca in southern Mexico have found genetically engineered corn despite the country's ban on bioengineered seeds. This sort of "contamination" has become a fact of life for corn growers anywhere near a field of genetically engineered seed, since corn spreads its pollen by wind (also see "Seeds of Discontent," page 8).
