Joseph Califano, Jr., former U.S. secretary of Health, Education and Welfare, recently slammed the NBC television network for its decision to accept liquor ads. Califano is currently the chairman and president of the Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University.
In an opinion piece published in the Washington Post, titled "NBC's Drinking Problem," Califano said NBC was seeking to "self-medicate its bottom line with millions of dollars of TV commercials for hard liquor."
