The Macapagal Arroyo administration has started negotiations with funding institutions to finance the rehabilitation of the Panay Railway System which is expected to boost economic growth in the region.
Transportation and Communications Secretary Pantaleon Alvarez said yesterday the project is fully supported by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and congressional and local leaders of the Western Visayas region.
Alvarez said the administration will most likely tap the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to provide the infrastructure loan necessary to jumpstart the project next year.
