TUBO, Abra -- Snipers believed to be communist guerrillas assassinated the mayor of this hinterland town yesterday morning.
Initial reports reaching the Abra OIC police director, Supt. Arturo Quilop, said Mayor Jose Segundo of Tubo, a Tingguian town, was on his way to barangay Dilong on horseback at about 7 in the morning to solemnize a marriage there when gunmen armed with M16 Armalite rifles fired at him.
Segundo was rushed to the Bessang Pass Hospital in Cervantes town, in neighboring Ilocos Sur, but he was declared dead on arrival by physician there.
