Medicare Physician Payment System Changed By Congress
WASHINGTON--The Medicare physician payment system will be reformed, beginning with a five-year phase-in on Jan. 1, 1992, under legislation approved by Congress as part of the budget reconciliation conference agreement.
The revision will be based on a three-part package, plus a program of outcomes and effective research. Dollar targets approved by the Ways and Means Committee in the original proposal were dropped by House-Senate conferees.
