FEARS of war between India and Pakistan rose again last night after five policemen were shot dead in a terrrorist attack at an American-run building in Calcutta.
India immediately linked the killings by masked men on motorcycles to the Pakistani secret service.
Officials said a Kashmiri separatist group had claimed responsibility for the raid on the American Cultural Centre.
The Indian Home Minister did not name the group, but claimed one of its senior leaders had telephoned Indian police from Dubai to claim responsibility.
